about

After a series of catchy, ear-splitting singles, a line-up change and a collection of new tracks Denver band Bleak Plaza emerge from Base Mess studios and greet 2017 with their pummeling self-titled debut album.

Like their local contemporaries American Culture and Kissing Party, Bleak Plaza combine overdriven guitars, pulverizing drums and sweet pop melodies with their distinctive personality to create something truly unique. Each of the nine tracks are noisy yet genuine and reflective. The track "Say It and It Dies" touts the line "Don't acknowledge beautiful things/Or pretty soon it'll all be demolished", directly calling out transplants that ruin great cities like their own. Much like the music community of Denver, Bleak Plaza is sonically fighting against the forces of gentrification. At the same time, the band showcasing the style and sound of a music scene unlike any other in the country.

The album is punchy, catchy, susinct and in your face. Equipped with fierce performances and sugar-sweet hooks each track is pop nugget drenched in kerosene. Their sound is distinct to who they are and true to the city and scene they belong to. Though there's no such thing as "the Denver Sound", Bleak Plaza's self-titled debut on First Base Tapes is the closest thing to it.

about

First Base Tapes Boulder, Colorado

We here at First Base Tapes think we know that it is better to matrix compellingly than to synthesize interactively. What do we evolve? Anything and everything, regardless of unimportance! Think ultra-affiliate-based. It sounds improbable, but it's true! We apply the proverb "Don't cry over spilt milk" not only to our implementation but our ability to benchmark.
